Review:

The Summer of Broken Rules follows 18-year-old Meredith Fox, who is dealing with the death of her sister, whose life was claimed in a car accident a year and a half ago. Still trying to navigate a world where someone so dear to her is no longer present, she heads to Martha’s Vineyard with her family for their annual summer vacation. This year, however, is a little more special as her cousin is getting married. In honor of her sister, the bride declares they play her favorite game, Assassin. Each guest is assigned a target which they must eliminate so that they may ultimately become the final victor. Determined to honor her sister’s legacy, Meredith sees the prize and tells herself she must do everything to win. What she doesn’t see coming, though, is the cute groomsman with whom she allies. As the week progresses, she plays the game to the best of her ability, all while becoming closer and closer to this witty and charming boy who completely sweeps her off her feet.

This novel is an extremely fun and lighthearted read. It’s very fast-paced, as the entire novel spans over one week, keeping its audience hooked from start to finish. Aside from being very playful and entertaining, it also touches on themes of grief and healing from a difficult loss. It sheds light on people’s ability to move forward and take heavy emotions, instead turning them into something positive. The writing is easy to follow, and every character has their allure. This is the perfect summer romance that everyone will surely enjoy and one that you should pick up this upcoming summer season.
