Many times animals find themselves in the wrong situation and require rescue and a new forever home. Fortunately, volunteers and non-profit animal welfare organizations focus efforts to change the future for animals in need. Acquiring an animal is a wonderful life addition, and really a win-win situation for both animal and owner. A deep commitment to providing the best care possible is required when entering into this new relationship. The Los Angeles Public Library offers a variety of books for kids that are interested in exploring the world of animal rescue. Kids learn all animals have value and are deserving of love.
Excerpted from the poem “Sad Rabbit,” by Eric Finney in the book Animal Poems
“How they fussed over me
when I was new;
Filled my bowl -
Played with me too.
Fed me green leaves
Dandelions such,
Stroked my long ears,
Cleaned my hutch.
Life was great then
But gradually
They found other things
They lost interest in me.”
