I have always felt it was a shame that so many maps and the stories they tell are buried in drawers where no one can hear them. Over the past decade and a half I have been able to let some of these cartographic stories see the light of day in exhibits and through the flawed magic of the Internet.
Writing about maps can give insight into their value but to hear and see the glories of these old friends in a little video is much more illuminating for those being introduced to the subject and to the aficionados who just like to see the beauties taken out for a stroll. In the upcoming months I hope to bring some of my favorite maps and stories out into the light of the Internet where everyone can get to know them. It is my way of giving back to the community that supports the collection: the people of Los Angeles.
