Three films adapted from books

If you've heard it once, you've heard it a million times—the book was better! There's nothing like debating the differences between a favorite book and its translation to the screen. But if you don't know your beloved series is coming out as a movie or that the fun-looking preview you saw was adapted from a book, how can you join the debate? The library is here to the rescue! Here, we will be exploring the movie adaptations soon to hit screens big and small and give you the chance to read before you view.

After her car breaks down next to an uncharted forest, Mina treks into the trees, looking for help. Instead, she is confronted by a woman who yells for her to quickly get out of the woods and join her in a concrete bunker. Once inside, Mina sees the woods are filled with terrible creatures who do unspeakable things to those caught in the trees at night. Afraid and confused, Mina must figure out what is going on and how to escape. Starring Dakota Fanning and directed by M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter, Ishana Shyamalan, the film adaptation of A.M. Shine’s The Watchers will be released in theaters on June 7, 2024 .


Queen’s Gambit by Elizabeth Fremantle, is the story of Katherine Parr, King Henry VIII’s last wife. Twice widowed by the age of 31, Katherine unfortunately catches the eye of the aging and mercurial king. Though in love with another, she reluctantly marries Henry and finds herself caught in the treacherous world of the House of Tudor. Starring Alicia Vikander and Jude Law, the film adaptation will be released under the title Firebrand on June 14, 2024.
