When will the Los Angeles Public Library reopen?

In accordance with actions being taken Citywide to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the Central Library and all 72 branches are currently closed until further notice.

Can I return my library materials?

The Los Angeles Public Library is currently not accepting returns. Please hold onto your library materials and we will accept returns after we reopen. No late fees will be charged for materials during this closure.

Can I renew my library materials?

Patrons can still renew library materials 24/7. You can renew online using your "My Library Account" or by calling our renewal hotline at 888-577-5275.

If your item cannot be renewed during our closure, no need to panic! We are not accepting returns during our closure, so we will be removing overdue fines when we reopen and items can be returned.

What is going to happen to my holds?

During our closure, holds cannot be placed or retrieved. If your hold has become available for pick-up, we will hold it for you and make it available for pick-up when we resume our hours of operation. Thank you for your patience during this interruption of our normal operations.

Will I be accruing fines?

Thank you for being mindful of your library account. Due dates have been extended to September 30, 2020, and patrons can return materials when libraries reopen. We are now fine-free, so there will be no penalties.

I want to access e-media, but don't have a library card. What can I do?

If you are a resident of the County of Los Angeles, you can apply for an e-card here.

If you are within the library's service area, you can apply for an instant Overdrive library card, please visit us here for details on this service.
