Author Shari Emami and her book, Breaking Free from Pain: From Struggle to Strength, My Own Personal Journey With Fibromyalgia

Shari Emami is a board-certified holistic health practitioner (HHP), health coach, published award-winning author, passionate writer, educator, disability advocate, and fibromyalgia overcomer.

As a former fibromyalgia patient, Shari is dedicated to helping others uncover the root causes of their fibromyalgia, heal naturally, and stop their chronic pain once and for all. Since 2016, Shari has been pain-free, a testament to the effectiveness of holistic practices and her unwavering dedication to self-care.

Emami's work focuses on creating a supportive community for those with fibromyalgia and educating the general public about this often misunderstood condition.

Shari, would you tell us who Shari is?

I am a disability advocate and holistic practitioner looking to serve the underserved in communities throughout the United States. My mission is to spread awareness and knowledge of treatments and hope for  fibromyalgia sufferers.

Can you tell us a bit about your personal experience with fibromyalgia and how it led you to become a holistic health practitioner?

I was always interested in natural healing, but in 2013, I decided to get certified in Lifestyle And Weight Management from NESTA (National Exercise Sports Trainer Association). I then decided to take the liberty to take extension courses at Bastyr University and other schools. I then applied to become board-certified as a holistic practitioner through the AADP (American Association of Drugless Practitioners) and continued my studies. I took various courses in herbal medicine, aromatherapy, and holistic coaching. In 2018, I became a certified health coach at the prestigious Dr. Sears Wellness Institute. My experience in dealing with fibromyalgia led me to continually study and stay at the forefront of new cutting-edge treatments that were more natural.

What inspired you to write your book on fibromyalgia, and what message do you hope to convey to readers?

I believe it was my own health and emotional struggle combined with my desire to help others. I want to provide a beacon of hope for those who suffer from fibromyalgia and emotional trauma. My message is always to trust your gut when it comes to getting healthy and always be proactive. You are your own best advocate.

Could you elaborate on some of the alternative medicine breakthroughs you've explored in your presentation and how they can benefit individuals with fibromyalgia?

I believe in CBD (cannabidiol) cream as a way to soothe fibromyalgia pain. I also feel that my extensive research and experience with hair mineral analysis, combined with Dr. Paul Eck's work, allows readers to understand some underlying reasons why you may have inflammation and fibromyalgia. I speak about healing the body as a whole, not as a separate ailment or illness.

What advice would you give to someone who has recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and is feeling overwhelmed?

That's a great question! I would advise them to join a support group and, in addition, seek someone who is trained to talk about their emotions and chronic pain. I also feel like diet changes, such as going gluten-free, can provide immediate relief. In addition, removing any inflammation in the body is also very important. You can do this using diet.

Are there any lifestyle changes or practices you've found particularly helpful in managing chronic pain?

Yes, diet, correct supplements, and low-impact exercise. Also, always stay mindful and listen to your body for what it needs.

What role does community support play in the healing process for individuals with fibromyalgia?

I really think that it's important to offer the community low-cost care and support to those who have fibromyalgia, especially those who are too disabled to work. Any job placement, outreach program, and support groups would be good. Maybe even offer discounts for gym memberships or a group class offered by the community.

What are your favorite authors or characters in history that you most admire or have inspired you through your life?

Edgar Allen Poe (poet)
Sylvia Plath (poet)
Delia Owens of Where the Crawdads Sing
RL Stine growing up
Don Colbert M.D.

What does the word "Library" mean to you?

Library is a place that is traditionally used for studying and reading. It's a place of togetherness and community for curious and avid readers. It can also be seen as a positive place to hang out and meet like-minded people.

What are you working on now?

I am working with a clinical aromatherapist and collaborating on a book that includes formulas and information on natural healing.

Would you share with us your favorite quote and what it means to you?

My favorite quote is "Carpe Diem," which means "seize the moment." Every day is precious, and we are never promised tomorrow.
