Vinyl Cutter

Using the vinyl cutters, lab members will be able to create their own stickers or heat transfer designs. Lab members may use/reserve the vinyl cutter for a single two hour session each day.

How does it work?

Vinyl Cutting using the Silhouette Cameo requires that you create a design, or trace an image in Silhouette Studio. You may use the lab’s computers to create your design, but this will reduce the amount of time you have to cut your material. Once the design is finished, you must specify what type of material you are cutting. The design is then sent to the vinyl cutter, which then cuts out the pattern.

Once the pattern is cut, you will need to remove any excess material from your design using picking tools. If you are creating stickers, you will need to apply transfer tape to your vinyl. If you are making heat transfer designs, you can use the heat press to affix your design to an article of clothing or fabric.

How much does it cost?

Access to the lab’s software/equipment/tools is free, but limited to lab members only. Lab membership is free.

What do I need to bring?

The Octavia Lab does not provide materials for member projects. Lab members will need to bring their own vinyl, flash drive, and transfer tape. Your material must fit our vinyl cutter's dimensions, which are 12" x 12". If you wish to create a permanent sticker, we recommend Oracal 651 Vinyl. If you are creating a heat transfer, we recommend Siser EasyWeed Vinyl.
