Kate Gale is full time Managing Editor of Red Hen Press. She is an editor, writer, literary citizen and arts manager. She has been a visiting poet at Pomona College and has taught in the Graduate Humanities Program at Mt. St. Marys. She teaches publishing courses at Antioch University Los Angeles. She speaks at universities, writing conferences, low residency and residency MFA programs on independent publishing, editing and publicity.
In 1994 Kate Gale founded Red Hen Press.
Douglas Kearney's work as a poet, performer and librettist has been featured in many fine publications and venues in print, in-the-flesh and in digital code. His first full-length collection of poems, Fear, Some, was published in 2006 (Red Hen Press). His second manuscript, The Black Automaton, was chosen by Catherine Wagner for the National Poetry Series and will be published by Fence Books in November 2009. In 2008, he was honored with a Whiting Writers' Award. He lives in the Valley with his family and teaches courses in African American poetry, opera and myth at California Institute of the Arts
Peggy Shumaker is author of Just Breathe Normally, her new book of lyrical nonfiction. Her most recent book of poetry is Blaze, a collection of sensual Alaskan paintings and poems. Her previous books include Underground Rivers; Wings Moist from the Other World; The Circle of Totems; Braided River, and Esperanza's Hair. Her nonfiction has appeared in Short Takes: Brief Encounters with Contemporary Nonfiction, A Road of Her Own, Under Northern Lights, A Year in Place, Prairie Schooner and Ascent. Shumaker is the recipient of a poetry fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, and several awards for teaching. Professor emerita from University of Alaska Fairbanks, Shumaker was Chair of the English Department and Director of the M.F.A. program in Creative Writing. She currently teaches in the low-residency Rainier Writing Workshop.
